The fruit vendors of NYC service new yorkers by providing them with the essentials of life in straining heat waves and the briskest of snow storms. We wanted to show our thanks with the use of our or traditional design skills like hand lettering, illustration and print making from India.

This was a project done in collaboration with designer Vedanti Sikka as we both shared a love for buying fruit from fruit vendor. The fruit vendors we chose to design for were all from Bangladesh which is a tiny country near India. We found that most of them came to America in search of a better life.

We wanted to design tools to help them fortify their business so we used our skills to cut stamps to make hand stamped brown paper bags with their name and location. To elevate the design we also made illustrations inspired by the colorful and elaborate local street art of Bangladesh. In the end we made about a 100 bags for each fruit vendor, along with 200 personalized business cards.

Unfortunately, all of the fruit vendors became extremely apprehensive when we started filming so we decided to stop recording to protect their privacy. There is a history of immigration issues that a lot of newcomers face when trying to make a life here in America. Regardless of this setback we were still fulfilled that we made an effort to sincerely thank our hard working community!
